The Therapy and Mediation practice with donkeys is about the interaction between donkey and man. Recent studies have shown that the use of animals represents an important contribution for social and psychological well-being of a person. Human relations frequently neglect the touch, the physical contact, the looking into the eyes. However, such physical manifestations are extremely important to assure our emotional well-being. The experts believe that with touching, for example, grows our self-esteem and develops feelings of proximity, assurance and confidence towards the others and the environment. The introduction of the donkeys in this mediation processes was done in the seventies in Switzerland, England, France, Italy and the United States, among other countries. This technique creates a cognitive, physical, motor and affective stimulation. Learning the process of communication with donkeys, works as an alternative approach. By trying to understand donkeys, their way of thinking and acting, and at the same time trying to make them understand us, we are placing ourselves in their positions. This means, we are exercising a new manner of language and communication. Approaching the donkey requires humbleness and respect for its own rhythm. The positive gain by an unselfish behaviour such as giving attention to a donkey, teaches us to become fair, tolerant and sensitive human beings, able to share a world with other human beings. In a simple way it helps us to respect whatever is different from us, but in some way needs and completes each of us. |
